Fourth grade students at Memorial Elementary explored the fascinating world of rocks and minerals with the help of Mr. White, who visits each week as a guest science teacher. Students started by studying different types of minerals, using their properties like hardness, color, and luster to identify what they were testing. For a fun, edible twist on rock formation, students created sedimentary rocks using crumbled graham crackers, igneous rocks made with melted chocolate, and metamorphic rocks made from saltwater taffy! In addition to rocks and minerals, students also learned about the layers of the Earth and fossils. As part of this lesson, fourth grade students got creative by making their own fossils. To wrap up the unit, the students played a group game to test their knowledge of rocks, minerals, and fossils. It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience for all!

Mrs. Reindl is going into Mrs. Anderson's 8th grade classes this week to talk to students about a career path in computer science and/or cybersecurity. She is talking to them about the qualifications for jobs in various areas. She is also doing some coding and cybersecurity activities to show the students how long coding and solving codes have been around. They started on Monday learning about the Disk Cipher and how they had to adjust codes they sent to make it tougher to crack. Today they learned about Morse Code and how it was used during wars.
