4th Grade Coding Adventure with Sphero Indi
Our 4th graders had an amazing experience with Ms. Reiser, blending creativity, problem-solving, and coding! Each class designed unique cities using map pieces, then programmed the Sphero Indi robot to navigate through their maps. Students explored how coding can bring their ideas to life while working together to solve challenges. It was an engaging hands-on project that allowed them to think like engineers, planners, and programmers. We are so proud of their hard work and can’t wait to see what they code next!
Here is Mrs. Salazar's class from Memorial.

Ms. McCallister's 3rd grade class has been busy making "Boo" Pops for the entire school for their service project!

David McCreary "Relevant Speakers Network" came to TJHS to share with our students and staff about his mission to share the secret of how to truly Live More. David shared moments from his life that made an impact on how he views time. He posited that today is someone in the futures past that they will one day regret. He challenged our kids to be better and do better, as well as to learn to laugh along with others. His comedy and magic tricks were a welcome break for us all. Thanks for the message David and thank you to our Student Council for sponsoring these opportunities to take a positve message school-wide.

Mrs. Thomas's Class at Memorial has been working on Opinion Writing this week! The students had to pick what they believe is the best Halloween candy, complete a writing map with sentences, and then finish off with composing an opinion writing piece! They are very proud of their hard work.

The TJHS Spooktacular Fall Concert is tonight beginning at 7 pm--be there or beware....ooooh, ahhhh, ooooh...

TJHS Red Apple recipients for the month of September are Mrs. Amber McLean "Geography teacher" and Ms. Nicole Kee "paraprofessional."
Mrs. McLean loves to teach because she enjoys seeing students learn new things and get excited or curious about a topic. Her fondest memory is when one of her former students said she was the classes very own Ms. Frizzle. Mrs. McLean also assists with Student Council and brings a positive attitude each day to her TJHS students and colleagues.
Ms. Kee is always willing to help out. She has shown an immense amount of positivity and patience throughout her time here at TJHS. Her constant want to help others is contagious. She enjoys working one-on-one and helping any student reach both big and small goals. Her fondest memory is walking into a classroom and seeing students excited that she is there to help.

Mrs. Laker’s 5th grade class came over to North and were Mrs. Cope’s class buddies. Some of Mrs. Phares’s former students had to stop and see her. ❤️We did a buddy interview sheet and read with our buddies too.

Mrs. Johnson’s third-grade are spreading positivity by writing inspirational thoughts on their desks! These uplifting messages serve as daily reminders to stay motivated, kind, and focused. Whether it’s “I’ve got this!” or “Be the reason someone smiles today,” students can glance down for a boost of encouragement whenever they need it. This creative approach not only inspires personal growth but also fosters a positive classroom environment.

More pictures of Mrs. Reber's 6th grade class codiing spheros. In Mrs. Reber's 6th grade science class, Mrs. Reindl visited to teach students about coding using spheros, which are fun, robotic balls that can be programmed to move, light up, and make sounds. This exciting activity allowed students to combine science and technology while learning important coding concepts. Mrs. Reindl explained that in both coding and science experiments, it’s important to change only one variable at a time. This means if you want to see how a change affects the Sphero's movement, you should only adjust one thing, like speed or direction, instead of changing everything at once. The students learned how to give commands to the spheros. They practiced coding to:
- Move: Control the direction and speed of the spheros.
- Light Up: Change the colors of the spheros to make them look cool.
- Make Sounds: Program the spheros to play different sounds while they moved. This hands-on coding experience with spheros not only made science fun but also helped students understand the importance of variables in both coding and scientific experiments. They left the class excited about technology and eager to learn more!
